Welcome to Oceana Paradise

We have opened a Danish πŸ‡©πŸ‡° family hotel in the Maldives in autumn 2025... it's a bit wild, we know πŸ˜…, but we LOVE adventure and we love the Maldives, where we have travelled to many times. We are Jane and Thomas from Lystrup + our 3 children.

We took over a very unfinished building from the 3rd floor. We have built more and now opened a beautiful and finished 7.5-storey hotel. The hotel opened with a soft opening in autumn 2025.

The hotel is now open

We bought and took over a hotel building that was well underway and up to 3 storeys high.

The hotel was a largely raw shell when we took it over, which made it possible to radically change the floor plan, facade, window sizes, etc.

We have changed EVERYTHING. One big thing is that we've added a lift to the hotel. This is important as we have built the hotel up to 7.5 storeys high with a large roof terrace.

The process has been a HUGE task, but also super exciting, as we can make our own mark right from the start. Just getting the building materials shipped to the island is a major task. We can't just drive to the Stark DIY store and pick up what we need. The hotel is now open - we opened in autumn 2025.

Peace and quiet

The Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean and consists of 99% water and approximately 1200 coral islands located on 26 atolls. 300 of these islands are inhabited, of which approximately 110 islands have been developed into hotel resorts. It's peaceful and tranquil and unbelievably beautiful.

Our hotel is located on the local island of Maafushi. This means that here you also experience "real" local life and not just luxury resort and hotel life like many of the other islands.

When we're in the Maldives, we spend a lot of time on and in the water. We go on trips, swim and yes, enjoy life. The sea temperature is 25-30 degrees all year round. The marine life below the surface includes whale sharks, manta rays, sharks, turtles, dolphins, all kinds of beautiful fish and corals.

Sharks

We recommend a minimum of 10 nights at Maafushi to get the full experience. One of the great experiences that awaits you is swimming with the nurse sharks. The nurse shark is a sociable and peaceful shark, as it often sleeps on the seabed.

The layout of the rooms

We have built the hotel higher to 7.5 storeys, with balconies for most rooms, which has been our priority.

We can also offer rooms with connecting doors so that 4-5 people can stay together. This allows you to stay together as a family, which we have often needed during our own family travels. Otherwise, the rooms are for 2-3 people.

The style itself is cosy with a mix of Danish functionality, minimalist, bohemian style with a lot of natural materials from Indonesia. You wouldn't believe how many details you have to consider in this process, pyhhaaa... It's no small thing πŸ˜…

As you can see, it has turned out nice and cosy and everyone has worked hard to create the cosiest Danish hotel in Maafushi.

Life on the island

For us, a close and genuinely interesting co-operation with the local community is very important.

We want to benefit the island and the local population combined with giving our guests a great holiday and also an experience of the "real" Maldives. We have donated a lot of Lego to the local schools and met with the government and people at all levels.
